Nobody should have to gamble on an HVAC company
When your furnace dies in February you have about an hour of patience and no way to tell a good contractor from a bad one. You call three numbers, two don’t answer, and you say yes to whoever picks up. We built NovaAir so that decision stops being a coin flip.
Opaque
Two companies quote the same repair at $340 and $1,100 and neither will say why. Price is the thing homeowners are least able to check and most afraid of.
Slow
“Someone will call you back” is not an answer when the house is 91 degrees. The dispatcher’s phone is a bottleneck that a broadcast doesn’t have.
Unverified
A licence number on a website tells you nothing about whether it’s still valid today. Somebody has to keep checking. Nobody was.
How we built it
Three decisions we won’t quietly reverse
Marketplaces tend to start generous and get extractive. These are the places where that would happen, written down so you can hold us to them.
- 01The commission never touches your billWe charge the HVAC company, not the homeowner, and companies agree to price the same whether you found them here or in the phone book. The day we add a “service fee” to a customer invoice is the day this stops being the thing we said it was.
- 02No company can pay to be shown firstEvery qualified company in range sees your job at the same instant. There’s no sponsored placement, no promoted tier, no ranking we can sell. The only advantage available is being ready to take the work.
- 03Verification is a schedule, not a signup stepLicences and insurance certificates carry expiry dates, and we act on them — reminders, then suspension. A company whose coverage lapsed stops receiving jobs that day, without anyone having to notice.
Right now we’re only in Washington DC
Deliberately. A marketplace with thin supply is worse than no marketplace — it takes your request and finds nobody. We’d rather cover a handful of neighbourhoods properly than a metro area badly, and we’ll open new ZIPs when there are enough companies in them to answer.
